Anthony Durham is no stranger to law enforcement. In fact, he served 18 long years in prison for killing a cop during a bank robbery. Once he got out, though, cops say he kept committing crimes and his latest round were a parent's worst nightmare.
On May 29, 2001, Anthony Durham managed to scar the lives of three children forever. Durham offered to babysit a young brother and sister and their friend in his trailer home in Indianapolis, Indiana. The family of the children assumed Durham would have them watch a movie before going to bed. But instead, Durham did a terrible thing. The children were molested.
The mother of the brother and sister says she was shocked when her daughter came to her with disturbing details of the molestation. It was a secret her children had kept from her for two weeks.
In March of 2003, the trial for the molestation charges was set. But police say, while the trial was underway, they made another startling discovery. They say Durham was having a romantic relationship with a twelve-year-old girl. Cops say he claimed he was in love with the young girl. This forced police to file additional charges for an attempted sexual molestation of another minor.
Then, police say the day the verdict came back guilty Durham was nowhere to be found. But, cops think they know who left with him.
Durham's wife says her husband claimed he was getting a ride to the trial with one of his witnesses. Police believe that the person that actually came to pick him up was an old criminal friend of his, Danny Hammond.
Cops know Hammond's name well. They say that Hammond and Durham were in the same gang of robbers and that Hammond served time for the bank robbery and cop murder as well. Authorities believe it was Hammond who took Durham out of town and allowed him to escape.
Durham has a long history of violent charges. Aside from the charges associated with the molestations and killing the cop during a bank robbery, police say they've also arrested him over the years for theft, grand larceny, pre-sodomy, battery, and DUI, just to name a few. Cops say Durham belonged to a tight-knit group known as "The Over the Hill Gang."
Authorities say Durham is still in contact with his family and Danny Hammond. Police say they received a tip that Durham was with Hammond in Florida. Police have also received reports that Durham might be hanging out in Indianapolis again, this time with a heavy-set female. Police are also looking for any information that could lead them to Danny Hammond, who is wanted for questioning in the disappearance of Durham.
