Congratulations to William Weigt, the 2009 AMW All-Star.
All of our first responder nominees are heroes, and you can browse through all of their stories.
Last June while on patrol Officer Philip Steemers overhead the scanner dispatching the fire department.
A one year girl had drowned in the pool.
Officer Steemers told the dispatch he was heading over.
He was the first on the scene.
A woman came running out carry a baby girl that was totally unresponsive.
Officer Steemers immediately began CPR on the child.
A few minutes later the fire department arrived and they all worked together to revive the child, which took about 10 minutes.
The little girl was rushed to the hospital, but made a full recovery.
For his immediate action and quick thinking Officer Steemers was recognized by the Red Cross and received a life saving hero award.
He also received an award from a member of congress and a life saving medal from his department.
Officer Steemers is grateful for the recognition but is just happy that the child was ok.
Officer Steemers says that he had no choice he had to respond and not just as an Officer, but also as a father.
Officer Steemers is a good man, who is caring, loving and intelligent.
It wasn't for his efforts the little girl may not be alive today.
