Sheffield Emergency Medical Service
Jon Swanson will be celebrating 30 years as an EMT in January 2012. His career began in 1982 when a small group decided to start an all-volunteer ambulance service because the town didn't have at the time. A year later they were given an old van and a stall in an old city building to park it that was the beginning of the Sheffield EMS. As Jon and the small group remained dedicated and consistent the citizens of Sheffield began depending on their local ambulance service. Over the years there have been notable rescues and the ambulance service has had a positive impact on the town of Sheffield. Jon's dedication and perseverance paid off when in 1997 he was honored as being named Volunteer EMT for the state of Iowa. In January 2010 there was a 40 car pile-up on the interstate caused by blizzard conditions. Jon and the crew from Sheffield EMS along with twelve other departments responded to the scene, providing medical care to the injured victims.
Judy Siems is part of the management team that now runs the service and she simply says EMT Jon Swanson "is the best".
