Crouch Volunteer Ambulance SVC
Garden Valley, ID
According to Donnie Adams, it was her friends, her late husband, and their active outdoor lifestyle that encouraged her to pursue her career as an EMT. Her uncle, her cousins, and her grandfather were all firefighters, but she was the first female firefighter in the family.
She has had ten years of experience in fighting fires for the Garden Valley Volunteer Fire Department and she is currently a volunteer EMT for Crouch Volunteer Ambulance.
As an EMT at this private organization, Donnie Adams has taken on the role of organizing and managing fundraisers.
"We raise all of our own money through fundraisers such as bike-a-thons and bake sales, and we are proud of it!"
Donnie says that Crouch Volunteer Ambulance also offers the community 25 dollar ride-tickets; these tickets allow people to eliminate the left over balance that their insurance companies don't cover.
If for some reason they do not have insurance, the ride ticket will suffice as payment.
"This is our way of giving back to the community because we are nothing without them."
Crouch Volunteer Ambulance is 50 miles from the nearest hospital in Idaho; this means some transports can be several hours long especially during the winter months. "She's the one that keeps things together when they are seemingly about to fall apart....that quiet steady foundation...she is like a mother to all of us."
According to her supervisor, Donnie's Passion and dedication make her a wonderful leader, supporter, and teacher.
Donnie lost her husband during the 2010 holiday season and yet her supervisor says she was back to work in a matter of weeks. Those who know Donnie Adams say that she is a very humble and caring person who gives freely without hesitation. When asked what she loves about her job, Donnie says, "The opportunity to take care of people with their needs and giving the best patient care I can is my number one priority."
