Lieutenant Mark Ulman's 27 years in public safety began in EMS and for the next 15 years he worked as a volunteer firefighter, EMT and Paramedic.
And after graduating with an Associate Degree in Police Science in 1999 he joined the Fox Valley Metro Police Department in Little Chute, Wisconsin.
In 2000, only a year after being on the job, he was awarded the first of two Best Badge Awards from Outagamie County District Attorney Office for excellent investigative follow-up as an officer. He received the second Best Badge Award in 2003 in addition to being promoted to lieutenant and was put in charge of the honor guard. In 2002 and 2004 he was awarded the Fox Valley Police Chaplains Humanitarian Award for providing assistance to his community. Lieutenant Ulman was awarded a commendation from his Police Chief in 2004 and 2009 for his work with the community and his department. He has also received two lifesaving awards in 2006. Lieutenant Ulman was selected by his peers as Officer of the Year in 2000, 2003, 2005, and in 2009 for raising funds for a local needy family.
Captain Mark Recker says his officer has a strong compassion toward others, explaining that years ago Mark saw
a child whose bike needed a new tire and he not only purchased the tire, he returned and helped him fix the flat.
