We Couldn't Wait -- The 2006 AMW All-Star Is...

4/21/2006

After more than two weeks of voting for the 8 fantastic AMW All-Star finalists, the votes have been tallied and we have the 2006 AMW All-Star. Sheriff David Shoar of the St. John County, Fla. Sheriff's Office received the most votes. And while we planned to announce the winner on May 13, in our All-Star area of AMW.COM, we were just too excited about the thousands of votes that poured in to AMW.COM to wait!

Sheriff Shoar has been in law enforcement for the past 25 years. He was also a police chief and served in the Florida National Guard for more than two decades. Those who know him say his dedication to law enforcement make him a true All-Star and the public agreed. And continuing the selfless actions of a first responder, Sheriff Shoar has pledged to donate the entire $10,000 grand prize to one of his deputies who recently suffered a stroke and needs help paying medical expenses.

When AMW correspondent Angeline Hartmann contacted Sheriff Shoar on May 10 to let him know he was the 2006 AMW All-Star, he was quite humbled and explained that he was proud to represent all first responders around the country. He explained, "We do the tough job for the right reasons."
