Police in Rye, New York and Greenwich, Connecticut are advising people to be on the lookout for a man who may be trying to abduct children in their communities.
Greenwich police have released a sketch of the man who they believe approached children in their area twice. Just five miles away police in Rye believe the sketch resembles the man who may have attempted to abduct children on six separate occasions in the small, close-knit community. The man is said to be driving a green minivan or sports utility vehicle. He is described as having yellowish disfigured teeth and a raspy voice.
Police are also concerned that the man may not be acting alone. Several witnesses have described a woman passenger in the vehicle. She is believed to be a white female with blonde or brown hair. Witnesses have also described her as having long fingernails.
In what is described as the most disturbing episode, the couple offered a 10-year-old boy a ride home from Rye Neck Middle School. When he refused, the man tried to grab his sweatshirt.
Since the first incident, which was reported Oct. 15 in Greenwich, police and school officials are asking everyone-- children and parents alike-- to be vigilant.
Investigators are asking anyone with any information to come forward.
