Wichita Police are submitting a recently discovered package to the FBI for confirmation that it was sent by the BTK Strangler.
Wichita television station KAKE reports that the package was found by a citizen late Monday night as he was walking through Murdock Park in downtown Wichita.
KAKE-TV reports that the man discovered the package wrapped in a white trash bag. Curious, he picked it up. As he told KAKE,
I didn't know what it was, because it was wrapped in rubber bands. So, I just held on to it and I brought it to the house and I sat [it] on the table and I took the scissors and I clipped around the trash bag.
Apparently, the unidentified man quickly realized that the package was important, so he phoned KAKE-TV. The television station then notified police and investigators took the package in the early morning hours of Tuesday, December 14.
As you can see from the photos at the right, inside the plastic-bag-wrapped package was what appears to be Nancy Fox's driver's license. Along with the license in the rubber-band-bound ziploc bag is another object, but police are not saying what that is.
You'll recall that Nancy Fox was murdered on December 8, 1977. That night, BTK called 911 to report the killing. You can hear the recording of that call here. Police have said that the voice is too distorted for a voice analysis.
