Police Seek BTK Victim's Necklace

On December 8, 1977, Wichita's infamous BTK serial killer telephoned 911 to report a murder at 843 South Pershing in Wichita. It was a murder that he himself had commited.

Wichita police quickly responded to the scene and found 25-year-old Nancy Fox. She had been tied up and strangled to death -- BTK's signature.

Today -- more than 27 years after her murder, Wichita Police believe Nancy's necklace may help unveil BTK.

That necklace was among the items police could not account for after her murder. Police say there is a good chance that BTK may have taken the necklace and then given it to a woman he was dating at the time of the murder. Police are hoping that someone may recognize the necklace or perhaps even have received it as a present. The necklace is described as a gold chain with two pearls that were set vertically.

Nancy's Clues

It's been widely reported that BTK, like so many psychopaths, takes "trophies" from his crime scenes. Trophies typically are small mementos that belong to a victim. For instance, it's known that BTK took Joseph Otero's watch after committing that murder. In one of his eerie communications he cavalierly explained that he had needed a watch and since Joseph's worked good, he took it.

The murder of Nancy Fox has been the source of several clues sent from BTK to police. Just a month ago -- on December 14, 2004 a Wichita resident found a mysterious package containing Nancy's drivers license. And just months after Nancy's murder BTK authored the poem Oh! Death to Nancy which he sent to Wichita's KAKE-TV on February 10, 1978.
