After a 27-year fight to track down the killer of his son, Adam, AMW host John Walsh was finally able to put the case to rest in 2008. Authorities were finally able to officially identify serial killer Ottis Toole as Adam's killer, and America's tireless champion of justice finally saw justice brought about to his own family.
But there is still a lot of work to be done. 2 years ago, on the 25th anniversary of Adam's death, President George W. Bush signed into law the Adam Walsh Act, establishing a National Sex Offender Registry.
This bi-partisan legislation was another victory in the fight to help protect America's children.
Unfortunately, a key element still requires some follow through: the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act still needs funding behind it to allow this key piece of legislation to work.
John Walsh has teamed up with another champion of justice, Oprah Winfrey, who is helping to spread the word about the need to get involved in rallying congress around this important cause.
As John states, in his experience fighting for justice on Capitol Hill, lawmakers pay the most attention to the squeaky wheel.
Which makes it critical for all of us who support the Adam Walsh Act to contact our representatives to get funding for this piece of legislation.
