This week, AMW's Avery Mann is taking a behind-the-scenes at the America's Most Wanted Crime Center's control room.
Show producer Chris Hamilton gives us a sense of the juggling act he goes through in taping an episode. From his perch overseeing monitors, switchers and robotic controls, Chris is able to talk to the crew, coordinate the cameras to get the shots he wants, and even speak into John Walsh's ear.
Bob Clark, the show's script supervisor, manages the teleprompter and facilitates any changes to the script on the fly.
Avery talks to John about hosting NAPO's Top Cops awards in Washngton, D.C., which John says he always finds to be such an honor.
"It's always an honor to host the Top Cops," says John, "and I don't know how they come up with the finalists because every cop is a Top Cop."
This year, John had the privilege of presenting police officer Dorminey McCrae with the top award.
When faced with a life and death moment in a hostage situation, he was a real hero. As John puts it, "This year's winner was a real cool, brave, young cop who made a split-second decision and saved somebody's life."
The Top Cops awards show, which takes place each spring in Washington, D.C., features a number of celebrity presenters from shows like Law & Order, CSI: Miami, Rescue Me, and 24.
As John states, "I thank them for making that trip to D.C. to honor these cops. It's a tough and dangerous time to be a cop in America."
