This week, America's Most Wanted tackles one of our most heartwrenching cases yet. John Walsh and the team are on the hunt for Ramon and Janet Barreto, a couple who cops say tragically abused their 8 adopted children, and kept hundreds of animals in brutal conditions.
The story is presented in a slightly different way than usual, as producer Tony Zanelotti states. "We decided to do the story with the voice of the real cop," says Tony, featuring officer Jimmy Edwards narrating the recreation of the story.
Tony adds, "we're getting really good feedback on the story, from people who've seen many AMW stories, crew members, producers, they come up to me and they say they weep at the end of it. I think our viewers are really going to love this piece.
John Walsh was very moved by this story as well, and this week during the studio shoot he was able to meet and talk to Officer Jimmy Edwards and his wife Larissa. And fortunately, this is one story with a happy ending for the victims
"[Jimmy] and his wife Larissa, decided not only were they going to get America's Most Wanted to help hunt down the Barreto's, but they were going to give little Edwin a good home," says John, "and all of the other kids fortunately have been adopted."
The Barretos are still on the run however, possibly having crossed the border into Mexico. And as John states, "I think one of our great Mexican viewers is going to make that call and give us the tip thats going to take these people down."
Hopefully, this Saturday, we can give these families the closure they need, by getting the Barretos behind bars and completing this happy ending.
