The holidays are a poignant time for criminals and victims families both, as the latter more acutely feel the loss of loved ones and the former tend to reach out to their own family and friends.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Florida Department of Corrections have responded to these phenomena by launching the "12 Days of Fugitives," an intense public outreach to generate leads on a dozen of Florida's most notorious prison escapees.
The initiative launched Dec. 23, 2009, and has focused on one fugitive each day, offering rewards and a toll free tipline for the public to call.
The fugitives will be featured in state newspapers, highway billboards, and of course, America's Most Wanted:
