America's Most Wanted has been hard at work to expose and hunt down criminals hiding all over the United States, and several fugitives have been picked up in the last few weeks -- two with your help. Here's a rundown of all the action:
Abraham Mpaka
On Dec. 26, 2008 police say Abraham Mpaka stabbed and murdered his girlfriend, Coty Paul, in cold blood at a neighbor's home in Miami, Fla. Mpaka fled the scene and the state, leaving Paul's family and friends in shock and disbelief. On March 12, 2011, a tipster was surfing AMW.com and recognized Mpaka as her friend's boyfriend, Larry Holmes, in Hastings, Minn. Police and FBI agents tracked Mpaka to a library and arrested him, making him AMW Direct Capture No. 1146.
Darian "Drake" Pierce & Ricky Wedgeworth
Darian Pierce and Ricky Wedgeworth escaped from a Louisiana State Police Headquarters on Friday, March 4, 2011. While on the run, cops say they carjacked, kidnapped and allegedly murdered 53-year-old David Cupps, of Vicksburg, Miss. On March 14, 2011, Pierce and Wedgeworth were captured in Memphis, Tenn.
David R. Puckett
On March 9, 2011, David R. Puckett escaped from the Stiles Correctional Unit in Beaumont, Texas, by sawing through bars in the prison's recreation yard. After trying to seek medical treatment in Houston, U.S. Marshals say Puckett got help from a friend and went to Omaha, Neb. Authorities claim Puckett's female accomplice wired him money for the trip to Omaha. When the Marshals arrived at the address in Omaha, Puckett failed at an attempt to jump from a second-story window to escape capture.
Antwan Ray Gripper
Police say on March 8, 2010, Antwan Gripper shot Willie Williams on his family's Columbus, Ohio, porch. Columbus police caught Gripper on March 13, 2011 during a routine traffic stop.
Jesus Alvarez
Police say the family of Margarita Blanco watched in horror as Jesus Alvarez assaulted her and then set her on fire at a family gathering in Miami, Fla. Days after the attempted murder, police arrested Alvarez; Margarita Blanco had succumbed to her burns the day before.
Binak Gjergjaj
On April 16, 1998 in Auburn Hills, Mich., Rita Gjergjaj told her husband Binak that she wanted a divorce. Police say Binak lost control and attacked his wife. She escaped and filed for divorce in 2001, fighting for custody of their children. Cops Binak threatened to kill Rita if she was successful in gaining custody, and they believe Binak made good on his promise, fleeing the country afterwards. Binak Gjergjaj was arrested in Kosovo in 2011.
Ricky Alan Howard
In December 1999, police say a drunk and desperate Ricky Howard made his way through a family's mobile home window, raped a 12-year-old girl and threatened to kill her if she told anyone. The girl alerted her family and local authorities, who issued an arrest warrant in March 2000. Howard, a career criminal, fled to Texas in hopes of avoiding punishment. Thankfully, an AMW viewer identified Howard and law enforcement agents were able to put him away. He is AMW Direct Capture No. 1145.
Stafford Spicer
On April 29, 1985, Joanna Jones was abducted, stabbed and eventually murdered. Authorities would discover her body months later in a culvert in Azusa Canyon, Calif. In 2009, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Homicide Cold Case Squad re-opened her murder investigation. With the advances in technology, police were able to link Stafford Spicer's DNA to the crime scene and Jones' car. On March 8, 2011, Spicer was arrested in Las Vegas and formally charged with Joanna's murder, rape, robbery and kidnapping.
Aaron Thomas
Aaron Thomas was able to elude law enforcement for the better part of 14 years, escaping rape charges from more than 10 years ago. Eventually, Prince William County Police and U.S. Marshals identified and captured Thomas in New Haven, Conn.
