The Top Ten Fugitives of 2005

12/14/2005

Overview
Alfredo Lopez Cruz is wanted for the June 2005 rape and kidnapping of a 9-year-old girl in Ohio.

As we prepare to close out the old and ring in the new, John Walsh and AMW count down the Top Ten Fugitives of 2005:

#10: Alfredo Lopez-Cruz

Police say in June 2005 Alfredo Lopez-Cruz lured a 9-year-old girl into an abandoned house in Ohio where he raped and threatened her. When the little girl's father went looking for Cruz, the accused rapist was still naked in bed -- but by the time cops showed up, Cruz was gone and hasn't been seen since. Although police haven't been able to catch up with him Lopez-Cruz' neighbors decided to take matters into their own hands -- they spray painted and torched the accused molestor's house.

#9: Jason Brown

Jason Brown is wanted for first degree murder after police say he shot and killed an armored truck driver during a robbery in a Phoenix suburb. Brown fled on bike after the November 2004 robbery and hasn't been seen since. Cops think he could be hiding out in any number of places, including Portland, Ore., Redding, Calif., Salt Lake City, Canada or Mexico.

#8: Kenneth Cofer

Witnesses told police that after Kenneth Cofer shot and killed a man during a bar fight in Oklahoma City, he walked to his truck and said, "I guess I have ruined my life," before driving off. Now police want to make good on Cofer's observation and throw him behind bars for the September 2002 murder of Vietnam veteran Larry Buchanan.

#7: Donald Lynch

Police in Tennessee and upstate New York are looking for David Lynch who is accused of raping two girls -- aged 7 and 11 years old in 2003. When police raided his house, they found more than 600 video tapes, 300 photographs and other pornographic material, all showing young girls in sexually explicit positions and poses. He was arrested in New York in October 2003, but ran away after he posted bond in June 2004.

AMW is dedicated to putting this year's Top Ten assortment of accused rapists, murderers and thieves behind bars where they belong.
Overview
Police say George Saravanos brazenly shot a corrections officer in New Jersey in December 2004.
#6: George Saravanos

Investigators in Atlantic City, N.J. say George Saravanos had his sights set on robbing someone in December 2004 -- but he got more than he bargained for when he chose a seasoned corrections officer as his mark. When Saravanos allegedly pointed a gun at Robert Ross at a hotel party, Ross looked at him incredulously and flashed his badge. But police say Saravanos didn't care and shot and killed Ross anyway. Police may be closing in on Saravanos and even have surveillance footage of him in an Atlantic City casino.

#5: Andre Harris

NYPD Detective Peter Vasquez says he wants to get Andre Harris "in the worst way." That's because in July 2004, police say Harris --who goes by the nickname "Jigga"-- and an accomplice walked into the Bronx, N.Y. home of Osmond and Valry Hacker intent on robbing them. When Osmond Hacker struggled with the men, they fired, hitting Osmond four times and Valry twice. Although she was just wounded, he died at the scene and now police want to make sure Harris gets what he deserves.

#4: Jean-Marie Jean-Francois

Police say native Haitian Jean-Marie Jean Francois moved to the United States looking for a better life. But little did his future girlfriend know that he would make her life a living hell. Cops say that after she got a restraining order against Francois, he decided to take matters into his own murderous hands. According to authorities, Francois ambushed his girlfriend and beat her to death in November 2003 in Florida. He then bound and gagged her 4-year-old daughter and threatened to kill her.

Overview
in June 2005, authorities say Fabian Urrea killed his ex-girlfriend's husband just days after she gave birth in California.
#3: Fabian Urrea

Authorities in Murrieta, Calif. say Fabian Urrea was determined to make sure his ex-girlfriend, Diana Estrada, would never be happy, and just days after she delivered their daughter in June 2005, police say Urrea decided to exact his revenge. Diana had recently married Jorge Estrada, a California National Guard specialist who had just returned home from a tour of duty in Iraq. When Urrea went to meet his new daughter, he and Jorge argued over custody, but instead of settling the dispute like a man, cops say Urrea shot Jorge in cold blood with a 9mm handgun.

#2: Israel Barretero -- CAPTURED

After a night out drinking with friends in March 2005, police say Israel Barretero shot and killed three men on a busy Dallas street and rode off into the night. But on Jan. 12, 2006, authorities got their man when they followed Barretero into a gas station after he dropped his girlfriend off at her high school. The best part? -- Barretero became AMW capture #873 after several viewer tips helped bring this creep down less than a month after he was featured on The Top Ten of 2005 show.

#1: Dan Hiers

With the dubious distinction of being 2005's most wanted, this creep is a man of many faces -- he's an ex-cop, an accused child molester and alleged murderer. Dan Hiers has earned a spot not only on the 2005 Top Ten List, but is also one of AMW's Dirty Dozen and a U.S. Marshals 15 Most Wanted. Police say on the same day Hiers skipped his court appearance for child molestation charges in South Carolina in March 2005, he shot his young wife in the head in their bedroom and then took off. Despite tips and alleged sightings pouring in from across the country, law enforcement have not been able to catch up with this year's most wanted fugitive.
