»The Full Story
Brothers Hugo and Jose Alvarez had a few things in common with their 24-year-old roommate Albino Martinez. All three were illegal Mexican immigrants who worked construction and spoke little English. But on September 19, 2005, their differences were center stage after an argument stemming from a long-standing feud erupted between Hugo and Albino. According to police, Hugo cut Albino's throat, and in a grisly and desperate act, cut off the man's head, arms, and legs. Albino's dismembered torso was found inside the mobile home the three men shared, but his arms, legs, and head were scattered throughout a wooded area behind the home right outside of Charlotte, North Carolina.
When police were called out to the trailer park where the murder took place, they thought they'd be dealing with a natural death case. But when they got inside the house and confronted Hugo Alvarez, they realized just how wrong they were. With the help of a translator, the Mint Hill (N.C.) police officer who responded says that Hugo Alvarez admitted to slitting Albino Martinez's throat, chopping up his body, and scattering the parts throughout a forest. Perhaps realizing that his guilt was evident, police say Hugo held out his arms in surrender and was promptly arrested.
Following Hugo's arrest, police questioned his younger brother Jose about the murder, but couldn't hold him on any charges.
Although Mint Hill police don't know Jose's level of involvement in Albino's murder, they want to find and re-question the only witness to this gruesome act. Cops think he's in Atlanta and may be trying to head further south to Louisiana or Mexico.
