»The Full Story
Daniel Medina and his three roomates were coworkers who had lived and worked together for a long time. Cops say it wasn't until Medina's girlfriend moved in that the mood at the shared apartment soured.
Soon after, Medina and two of the men got into a heated argument over the "fifth wheel" not paying her share of the expenses. At some point during that argument, cops say Medina pulled a .45 caliber semi-auto handgun from his waistband and started firing.
Cops say Medina shot and wounded all three of his roomates. Hubert Hernandez took six bullets. He's now a paraplegic with severe nerve damage and fractures in his left arm. When Marino Valencia came out of his room to see what was going on, Medina fired a misplaced round that grazed him in the head. Then he shot Gilberto Hernandez in the back as he tried to run away. Cops say that after Medina took off, Hernandez gave chase, but had to pull over in a supermarket parking lot after succumbing to his injury.
According to investigators, Medina had previously borrowed his employer's black Jeep Grand Cherokee, which he used to flee the scene. Nice guy that he is, he returned it to his boss's garage, where the boss's wife discovered it a short time later.
Police used dogs to search for him there, but they lost his scent after several hours. His former boss says he's probably working as a roofer on construction sites in and around New Orleans.
