Police say a man who attempted to kill his girlfriend in a brutal steam iron attack couldn't take the heat of life on the lam and is now in custody.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's office was searching for 26-year-old Leotha Dupas III, who they say is responsible for the attempted murder of his former girlfriend.
Police say on Saturday, December 1, 2007, around 1:54 a.m., Dupas went to pay his ex-girlfriend a visit. Reports indicate he was hoping to work things out with the woman, but when things didn't go his way, he allegedly attacked her.
Police say Dupas grabbed a hot steam iron that was already plugged in and burned the woman's face, arms and chest. Police say he then grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her in the upper torso several times.
When police arrived at the scene they found the 22-year-old woman in the parking lot being treated by EMS workers.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office has reported that Leotha Dupas turned himself in to police around midnight on December 5, 2007.
Deputies say that Dupas went on the run on Saturday, December 1, 2007 after he burned and stabbed his former girlfriend. Cops tell us that Dupas went to the woman's home with the hopes of a reconciliation, but when things didn't go his way, deputies say he grabbed a steam iron that was already plugged in and burned the woman's chest, hands, back and face. They say he then stabbed her several times with a kitchen knife. Luckily, the woman survived.
Police say Dupas had left the state of Louisiana, but felt tremendous pressure to turn himself in. He called the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office and agreed to meet them at a local worship center. Deputies say the surrender was peaceful.
