On September 24, 1994, cops say that 18-year-old Yehia Elham Badawi and his 28-year-old cousin, Mourad Ellakanny, conspired to rob a supermarket in Lower Merion Township, Penn. The masked suspects armed with pistols got away with the loot and gunned down a cop that got in their way.
Authorities say that Ellakanny was caught at the scene and Badawi escaped on foot. On December 2, 1995, AMW profiled Badawi and a viewer picked up the phone, tipped us off, and helped put the fugitive behind bars.

On September 24, 1994, cops say that 18-year-old Yehia Elham Badawi and his 28-year-old cousin, Mourad Ellakanny, conspired to rob a supermarket in Lower Merion Township, Penn. Cops say the suspects were well prepared wearing ski masks, dark clothes, and bulletproof vests. They also had mountain bikes as their getaway vehicles. Cops say the duo was armed with 9mm Berretta pistols and assault rifles that were attached to their bikes. Police say the cousins wore backpacks containing extra clips and ammunition totaling in excess of 300 rounds.
The suspects robbed the Acme supermarket in Lower Merion Township, Penn. and cops say they fled with $6,000. The fugitives pedaled away and reached the city of Narberth, Penn. where they were cornered by two police patrol units. Cops say that Badawi and Ellakanny opened fire on the officers resulting in a shootout that lasted about five minutes and exchanging over 80 rounds. Police say that an officer was shot and seriously injured, Ellakanny was hit and apprehended, and Badawi fled on foot and escaping authorities. Police say that Mourad Ellakanny was convicted and sentenced for the crime.
On December 2, 1995, AMW profiled fugitive Yehia Elham Badawi. A viewer recognized the suspect and called in a tip that led authorities to the fugitive who had been living in Salt Lake City, Utah. since the robbery took place. Badawi, who had no record at the time, was charged with criminal attempted homicide, robbery, unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, and various other charges.

On January 26, 1996, FBI courted the viewer to the location where the suspect was spotted in downtown Salt Lake City and set up surveillance. At approximately 1:40 p.m., Badawi was identified, arrested, and taken into custody.
