Miguel "Fat Mike" Martinez, alleged ranking member of the Chicagoland-based Insane Deuces street gang, has been a thorn in law enforcement's side for a very long time.
Now, AMW is teaming up with the Department of Justice and the U.S. Marshals Service to help make sure this wily fat cat stays in custody on a more permanent basis.
»The Full Story
At the onset of 2003, a number of Chicago-based law enforcement agencies participated in "Operation Stacked Deck" and "Operation Double Down" -- far-reaching investigations into the violent, vile street gang known as the Insane Deuces.
The successful operations helped take down a number of high-ranking 'Insane' thugs on both the state and federal levels.
Of the sixteen gang members federally indicted on racketeering and drug distribution conspiracy charges, the cops nabbed all but one.
The lone gang-banger to evade capture: Miguel Martinez, a.k.a. "Fat Mike."
Investigators throughout the Chicagoland area say Martinez was once a high-ranking member of the Aurora-based Insane Deuces. He held, or may even still currently hold, the prominent title of "Lieutenant Governor" or "Second Seat" for the Aurora faction.
Through his position, cops say he has the power to authorize hits on rival gang members, as well as have his "shorties" commit any one of a number of crimes on the gang's behalf.
The Insane Deuces are run much like a typical corporation with a clear separation between the top-ranking officials and the shorties on the bottom rungs of the ladder.
According to cops, those shorties are typically pre-pubescent adolescents and teenagers who barely know the difference between a playground and a prison cell.
The top dogs of the Insane Deuces groom the shorties for a life of illicit wheelings and dealings, promising them greatness and riches beyond comprehension.
Sadly, the dreams promised are just that, and the shorties typically end up following a tragic path to the jail cell or the graveyard.
Because Martinez has the power to influence his fellow gang members to act on his behalf and commit any and all imaginable crimes, cops say it's a necessity to take him off the streets immediately.
"Fat Mike", as Martinez is commonly referred, is currently wanted for conspiracy to commit multiple shootings, homicides and other firearms-related violent crimes -- all stemming from an alleged gang war with rival gangs that culminated in the summer of 2002.
In addition, he's wanted for questioning in the shooting death of a man that very same year, after the man had allegedly broken into his home in the middle of the night.
Miguel Martinez is wanted on federal RICO charges as well as murder and attempted murder charges. If convicted, he will be spending decades behind bars.
Miguel Martinez is a large man, and his nicknames "Fat Mike" and "Big Mike" certainly reflect that. Or at least they used to.
Authorities tell AMW that he may have lost a significant amount of weight, and he may have grown his hair out.
Martinez typically keeps a small amount of facial hair, including a soul patch and/or a goatee.
Martinez is considered armed and dangerous, as authorities believe he may be carrying a .357 revolver with him at all times. Cops say since he might be packing heat, they've received word that he may also be wearing body armor incase a spontaneous gun battle were to erupt.
He has connections throughout the nation, including Nevada, Arizona, parts of Texas and Mexico. However, U.S. Marshals tell AMW that Martinez may even be hiding out in the greater Chicago area.
When he's found, cops say Martinez faces life imprisonment for his violent, hedonistic, gangster lifestyle.
