It was just before dawn on August 2, 2008 when Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Juan Escalante was headed to work at L.A.'s Men's Central Jail.
Gunshots rang out, and Escalante became the latest victim of warring gangs in the Cypress Park neighborhood.

On March 4, 2012, Alabama police found Lyndon Smith brutally beaten and fighting for his life in the trunk of his car. Police say Lyndon was attacked by five men in all, including his own three sons, and Karen King was the mastermind behind the attack. All five men were arrested, but King remains on the run.
