Cops say the man they arrested on August 9, 2007 for allegedly assaulting a 9-year-old girl in Prince George's County, Md. has escaped custody -- and a manhunt is now underway.
Around 1:30 p.m. on August 3, 2007, cops say Palmont knocked on the door of a Marlboro Pike home nearby his own residence. A 9-year-old girl answered the door, and cops say Palmont requested to use the telephone inside. The little girl let him in -- and that's when cops say Palmont attacked. He allegedly pulled out a handgun and sexually assaulted the little girl.
Six days later, cops caught up with Palmont at his house to arrest him on sexual assault charges. But police say Palmont wasn't going to go easily -- he jumped from a second-floor window, suffering fractures and other injuries after his fall.
Police was taken to Prince George's Hospital Center, where he was ordered held without bond. But cops say an innocent mistake put the not-so-innocent assault suspect back on the street.
On August 10, 2007, a corrections officer went to the hospital to release another inmate -- and accidentally released Palmont instead. He has been out of police custody since approximately 6:15 p.m. that evening and is considered very dangerous.
