Pomona, Calif. authorities were aghast when they came across a grisly crime in February 2007. For a week, police say 28-year-old Raul Carillo Alderete held his ex-girlfriend captive in an abandoned apartment and repeatedly tortured and raped her. For 11 months, police conducted an intense manhunt for Alderete who was wanted on seven felony counts including spousal abuse, rape, kidnapping and torture. Alderete was apprehended by authorities on January 17, 2008.
According to police, the female victim was trapped in turmoil. Alderete had taken hold of his victim and was forcing her to party with him, which included smoking methamphetamine. When the opportunity arose, the victim jumped to her escape, leaping out of a second-story window. She broke her leg in the fall and was being treated at a nearby hospital when Alderete found her. Furious that she escaped, cops say Alderete ordered the victim to leave the hospital. Fearful for her safety, she complied.
Hospital workers alerted police that Alderete had once again taken hold of his victim. Cops instantly went to work to try to find her.
Alderete drove the victim to the abandoned apartment where cops say he punched, kicked, tortured and raped her for nearly a week. Cops also say the victim was stabbed nearly 30 times and he raped her using a flashlight and a beer bottle.
According to detectives, Alderete quickly learned that cops were looking for him. He contacted Pomona police and conversed with cops on several occasions, however he never surrendered.
Alderete was detained in Tijuana, Mexico in May of 2007, but a court ordered his release without explanation. In the months to follow, he was seen in San Bernardino, Calif. and back in Pomona.
Authorities tell AMW that 28-year-old Raul Carillo Alderete's life on the lam ended without incident on January 17, 2007. Earlier that day, the U.S. Marshals Service received information from Pomona Police Department that Alderete had been spotted in Riverside, Calif.
