The FBI tells AMW that Bret Lee Luckett Thompson was captured on June 13, 2011, more than 1,700 miles away from Denver, where he fled charges of kidnapping and sexual assault of a child.
FBI Special Agents, with the assistance of the North Brunswick, N.J. Police Department, found Thompson sleeping in the back of his van outside a local Walmart.
FBI agents in Denver are breathing a sigh of relief after apprehending Bret Lee Luckett Thompson after nearly two weeks on the run. The 27-year-old is accused of raping an 8-year-old girl in Denver on June 2, 2011.
"Thompson was arrested by FBI Special Agents, with the assistance of the North Brunswick Police Department...in New Jersey shortly after midnight ... on June 13, 2011," said Media Coordinator Dave Joly in a press release.
The Denver FBI tells AMW that Thompson's 1999 white Pontiac Montana van was found parked in the back of a Wal-Mart in North Brunswick, N.J., more than 1,700 miles from where Thompson took off from Denver.
"Agents located Thompson sleeping in the back of a van and took him into custody," Joly said.
The FBI and Denver Police Department are continuing with the investigation. As of June 13, 2011, it is unclear if Thompson will waive extradition from New Jersey to Colorado to face charges.
