Ana Acevedo, an enthusiastic eighth-grader, went to bed early excited to return to class at Williston Middle School in Castle Hayne, N.C. When Ana's father came in from work on the morning of Monday, January 3rd, 2005 he went to wake Ana up for school but she was missing.
AMW has learned that Ana made contact with her father in the months after she disappeared, and she is fine.

Thirteen-year-old Ana Acevedo lived with her father Laurencio Acevedo in the quiet neighborhood of Castle Hayne, North Carolina. He describes his daughter as a straight-A student. Ana went to bed early on the night of January 2, 2005. She was excited to return to school after the winter break. Ana never got to class that Monday. Police believe she may have been abducted Sunday night.
Mr. Acevedo came home from working the night shift at 6am Monday morning. He went into Ana's room to wake her up for school only to find that Ana was not in her bed. He immediately called police to report Ana missing.
When Ana disappeared Mr. Acevedo, along with authorities, started to take a look at Victor Velasco Hernandez. Victor is a 24-year-old neighbor of the Acevedos'. Ana's father claims that Victor used to stare at Ana. Although Mr. Acevedo told Victor to stop, it seems he didn't. When he disappeared the same time as Ana police became suspicious.
Authorities believe that Victor could have taken Ana to Mexico or to a Hispanic populated area in Florida, where he has relatives.
Although police have not charged Hernandez with Ana's abduction there is a warrant for his arrest. He is charged with first degree rape of a child stemming from an incident in May of 2004 that is not related to Ana. Cops are concerned Ana's safety.
Ana is a 13-year-old Hispanic girl with brown hair and brown eyes. She stands at 5'4" and weighs 130 lbs. She was last seen in Castle Hayne, North Carolina at her home.
