»Learn How Police Tracked Cecilia's Killer
For five months police in Toronto as well as around Canada searched for Cecilia. Thousands of tips were called into America's Most Wanted as well as into local police departments. All were investigated, but none panned out. Chinese speaking detectives scoured neighborhoods in Chinatown, passing out flyers and talking to local merchants, hoping someone had heard news on the whereabouts of Cecilia. But nothing.
Despite all the hard work, it was chance that would finally end the desperate search. On March 28th, 2004, Peel Regional Police responded to a wooded area in Mississauga, Ontario. A jogger had called cops to the location after he discovered the remains of a small human. Constables quickly realized the body was a child's and called in the Toronto Police Service Homicide Detectives.
Everyone suspected the worst, that the remains would be Cecilia's. But it would take time for the results to come back, so everyone waited. After a few days, the news came in. Cecilia had been found - the remains were hers, and hopes of a safe recovery were dashed. Now police would have to change their focus from an abduction to a homicide.
