Police Find Remains of Rosa Sandoval
Authorities say skeletal remains found in a wooded area in southwest Bexar County, Texas in December are those of 12-year-old Rosa Sandoval.
Authorities informed Sandoval's family about lab results that matched the girl's DNA late Tuesday morning, March 22, 2005.
Person Discovered Skull In December
On December 10, 2004, a person driving down Kearney Road off of Old Pearsall saw a human skull lying on the edge of the pavement.
Investigators say there had been a lot of rain and they believe the skull had floated to that location. The area was too flooded at that time for deputies to search for any other remains.
When they went back on January 20, they found the bones of a girl scattered over about 40 yards. Some remains were hidden under debris and several large pieces of wood. Those items were also taken as evidence.
There were some pieces of clothing at the scene, but detectives say it was very weathered.
Police have not yet determined the cause of death.
