Sam and Lindsey have been missing since Friday, June 4, 2004.

Police in Independence, Mo. are searching for seven-year-old Sam Porter and his eight-year-old sister Lindsey, who were abducted by their own father, Daniel Porter on June 4, 2004. Though police have him in custody, he won't say anything about what happened to his two children. On February 9, 2006, a jury convicted Daniel Porter of kidnapping and now, he will spend 38 years in prison.

People who knew Daniel Porter say his family meant everything to him. He and his wife, Tina, had been married for 15 years. But when things between Tina and Daniel began to sour, police say Daniel became violent.

In February, 2004, Daniel pleaded guilty to one count of domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He was sentenced to three years of probation. As a condition of his probation, he was ordered to stay away from all types of alcohol and weapons. He was also ordered to complete anger management and substance abuse programs.

Despite his difficulties, Daniel was allowed to continue his court-ordered weekend visits with Sam and Lindsey.

Police say when the family began to fall apart, so did Daniel.

On June 4, 2004, Daniel quit his job at a plastics factory-- this was significant because he had worked there for twenty years. Cops say Daniel then went to pick Sam and Lindsey up for a scheduled weekend visit. But police say that when it came time to return the children to their mother, Daniel refused.

According to Tina, Daniel began calling her, threatening to kill himself and the children. She immediately reported his violent calls to the Independence Police Department. Familiar with Porter's violent history, investigators did not take these calls lightly. Trouble was, they didn't know where he had gone.

One of the places police began searching for Porter was in Trenton, Missouri, where he grew up. When he was spotted in the area changing a tire, deputies quickly made their arrest. But the children were nowhere in sight.

Daniel Refuses to Talk

As officers questioned Porter regarding the whereabouts of his children, he refused to talk. A few days after he was picked up, authorities hoped they had gotten a break in the case when they found some of the children's clothing in a wooded area not far from where Daniel Porter was arrested. The items found were apparently clothing the children had packed for the weekend. Despite that discovery, there was still no sign of Sam or Lindsey.

On September 9, 2007, police made a grim discovery. Following a tip, police traveled to a wooded area where they found a gravesite containing human remains. Cops say there's a good chance the remains belong to the Porter children. Tests are underway to help identify the bodies. Police would not say who made the tip.

Police Find Remains Of Porter Kids

On Sept. 9, 2007 police in Independence, Missouri made a grim discovery. They uncovered skeletal remains they believed belonged to Sam and Lindsey Porter -- a brother and sister who had been missing since June of 2004.

And just two days later, dental records confirmed that the bones found in the shallow grave are those of the Porter children. Since then, cops say the children's father -- Daniel Porter -- is the person who led them to the bodies. Porter faces murder and multiple kidnapping charges. However, in December of 2007, a state appeals court dropped two of the four kidnapping charges he's facing, but it certainly doesn't mean he's off the hook.

Sam and Lindsey's Graves

The children were last seen with their father and were reported missing on June 7, 2004. Independence, Missouri Police Captain Ken Jarnigan says it appears the children had been in the grave for quite some time, leading him to believe they had been placed there soon after they had gone missing.
