Missing Boy Returned Safely
A missing 7-year-old has been found and his mother has been arrested after failing to return him on time to his father, who has custody and who reported the boy missing on July 26.
Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Victor Jones Jr., said in a news release Thursday that Betty Garrett was being held on a charge of interference of child custody. She turned herself and the child, Schidee Carries, in to the sheriff's office, investigators said.
On Monday, Louisiana State Police issued an AMBER Alert on Schidee and Garrett, saying they had been told that Garrett had threatened to kill the boy and herself.
Schidee had been with his mother at her Natchitoches home since June. His father, DoRis Carries of Natchitoches, had picked him up a few times for specific occasions, but it was the boy's time to spend with his mother. Carries said he became worried when he stopped getting calls from the boy last month. Then, he was unable to find or contact the boy or the mother.
Carries said he never denied his son a visit to his mother even after she was arrested on suspicion of shooting one of her adult children. Even after that arrest, the court-ordered custody agreement never changed, he said.
