Remains Identified As Those Of Missing Girl
Authorities have confirmed remains discovered in Big Walnut Creek are those of Emily Rimel, who disappeared in 2004. Police say local fisherman recovered the remains May 23, 2006, just 10 miles from Emily's home.
DNA was taken from three of the five teeth in the skull that was recovered. At the state's crime laboratory, the DNA was matched with the girl's DNA, along with the DNA from her mother and father, police say.
Man Charged With Kidnapping
Lindsay Bruce, a man who was staying with the Rimel family at the time of Emily's disappearance, has been convicted of kidnapping Emily. Bruce was sentenced to 10 years in prison, the maximum sentence possible for the kidnapping charge. With the discovery of remains, prosecutors plan to pursue aggravated murder charges against Bruce.
