Police in Granite City, Ill. breathed a sigh of relief when they located 5-year-old Makayla Christy on Jan. 30, 2006 -- the day after she went missing. Police say she'd been abducted by her own grandmother -- a woman who was out on bail for murder and arson charges.
The little girl had gone missing the evening before, and police believed she'd been abducted by her own grandmother, Deborah McFadden. Police say McFadden was out on bail for murder and arson charges, and considered Makayla to be endangered in her grandmother's presence.
Makayla and her grandmother were found at the Royal Budget motel in Fairmont City. Police say Makayla was unharmed, and that her grandmother is now back in custody.
