Authorities in Oregon say that Kati Kim and her two children, Sabine and Penelope, were rescued and airlifted to a hospital in Grants Pass, Oregon on Decenber 4, 2006.
Unfortunately, James Kim, Kati's husband and the father of her children, was found dead two days later, after a failed attempt to find help for his family.

Search and rescue teams hired by the Kim family made a major discovery on December 4, 2006.
While combing the rural Oregon countryside, searchers saw Kati Kim waving an umbrella alerting them to the family's whereabouts.
Immediately, Kati, Penelope, and Sabine Kim were recovered and airlifted to a hospital in Grants Pass, Oregon.
Searchers found the dead body of James Kim two days later on December 6, 2006, after he died in an attempt to find help for his stranded family.
