Police say longtime felon Lorenzo Curry knew his days as a free man were numbered. So in 2002, he grabbed his girlfriend and their baby and hit the road. For years, they remained on the run, until July 2008, when the U.S. Marshals came storming into their Motown hideout. Curry and his girlfriend were captured without incident, and baby Aaliyah's grandmother finally got to reunite with her precious 6-year-old granddaughter.
After an AMW tipster led Marshals in Detroit directly to the home of Lorenzo Curry and his girlfriend, Janora Sanders, the Marshals also made another discovery -- young Aaliyah, now 6-years-old, safe and sound.
They found her in the same home as her parents, and promptly called her grandmother, who had been waiting nearly six years to see or hear from Aaliyah again.
The arrest and recovery took place around 7 p.m. on the night of July 29, 2008. About 2 a.m. the next morning, Aaliyah's grandmother arrived in Detroit to see her long-lost granddaughter, and returned her to the home where she truly belongs.
