Police say the woman, who claimed to have seen a baby tossed from a moving car, made the entire story up.
Detectives learned the truth after interviewing her several times.
The woman, Patricia Pokriots, was hailed as a good Samaritan when she arrived at a nearby sheriff's office with the infant. However, her story began to show holes under questioning. Deputies now say Pokriots is in fact the infant's biological mother. And, they say the story about the unconscionable couple was complete fiction.
Florida has a Safe Haven law -- mothers may anonymously drop a baby off at a hospital or fire station within the first three days of the child's birth. It's not clear why Pokriots didn't simply surrender the infant at a Safe Haven. While Deputies say Pokriot filed a false police report, it seems unlikely that they will charge her.
