Body Found, Identified as Missing Girl's
The body found near an abandoned mobile home in Kalona, Iowa, has been identified as that of missing 10-year-old Jetseta Gage. Medical examiners say she died from asphyxiation.
Jetseta had been missing since Thursday, and her disappearance sparked a statewide AMBER Alert. Police say she was abducted from her Cedar Rapids home by 37-year-old Roger Bentley, a registered sex offender. Cops say Bentley kindapped, assaulted, and murdered this young girl.
Bentley is currently being held on $1 million dollars bond.
Mom Unaware Of Sex Registry
Jetseta's mom says she does not own a computer and had no way of checking Iowa's sex offender registry's website.
The state's Sexual Offender Registry said Bentley was convicted in 1994 of lascivious acts with a child. He served two years of a five-year sentence.
Jetseta Gage's mother, Trena Gage, said she had no idea about Bentley's past.
He was at the Gage's house Thursday night, replacing the transmission in the family's minivan. Trena Gage said she met Bentley through his younger brother James. She said she and James Bentley dated about five years ago.
James Bentley also is in jail awaiting trial on a charge of second-degree sexual abuse.
Trena Gage was attending classes at Hamilton College the night her daughter was taken. Her mother and 7-year-old son were home at the time.
