NY police have cancelled an AMBER alert for 13-year-old Mara Downes who was reportedly assaulted and thrown into the trunk of a car by three masked men. Police say Mara was safely recovered not far from where she was reportedly abducted. Now, police have made four arrests in connection with Mara's disappearance.
Ramapo Police say they received a tip that the car Mara was thrown into was parked behind a local apartment complex. When police arrived on the scene, they found Mara locked inside the trunk. She was taken to a local hospital, but appeared to be unharmed.
Now, police say they have made four arrests in connection with Mara's abduction. Three suspects have been charged with kidnapping and two have been charged with robbery and grand larceny. A fourth was charged with attempted burglary for a March 26 incident where she allegedly tried to get inside the Downes' home by claiming that she needed to use the phone, police say. According to authorities, the four charged are also suspects in the theft of a car belonging to the Downes family.
