Since November, residents of Red Lake, Minnesota held on to hopes that brothers Tristan White and Avery Stately were still alive. On April 1, 2007, those hopes were dashed.
»The Full Story
On Nov. 22, 2006, Tristan Anthony White and his half-brother Avery Lee Stately were last seen playing in the yard of their uncle's home on the Red Lake Indian Reservation. But the children vanished, and investigators have still not determined if the children wandered off, or if they were kidnapped.
As soon as family members reported the children missing, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies collaborated to search for the children. The Red Lake Indian Reservation is the size of Rhode Island. Over the holiday weekend, search groups combed the Red Lake area as well as the wooded area near the boys' home. Despite air, ground, and water searches, police say there was not even the slightest trace of the children. On Nov. 27, 2006 investigators called off the massive ground patrol that had been underway.
Both boys are Native American. Tristan is 3'6" tall and has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a Spiderman jacket with yellow trim and Levi's jeans. Avery is 2' tall and has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a grey sweater with the word "Timberland" on it. He was also wearing Spiderman tennis shoes.
The FBI is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the boys. The Red Lake Tribal Council later announced that it has added $10,000 to the reward fund. Although more than 300 leads have been tracked down since the children's disappearance, investigators are no closer to solving the case.
Police did not issue an AMBER Alert because they say there is not proof that the boys were abducted.
