Von Marie Morales is safe, home and living with her mother after she showed up at the U.S. Embassy in Ecuador asking for help. She was just 14 when she disappeared from her Orlando, Fla. home in 2005.
Her family's fear that she might be pregnant and in the company of her then-boyfriend proved true.
She had a child, who was three at the time of her recovery, and was living and working there, according to police.
When the two started having relationship problems, cops say Amaluisa called immigration and told them that Von Marie was in the country illegally.
It was an attempt to keep her from fleeing with his child, but police say before immigration arrived, Von Marie ran to the U.S. Embassy for help on July 30, 2009.
The girl did not have a passport, but her U.S. citizenship was verified through a birth certificate, family photos and her mother's statement.
