Janiya Norra missing,police Missing Oakland Girl Returned To San Leandro Police

Police say that 2-year-old Janiya Norra was returned safely to a San Leandro, Calif. police station. Janiya had been missing since March 27, 2008 when cops say the child was left with a babysitter, who claimed she wanted to take the child shopping for clothes.

Janiya Returns Home Safely


After a month-long search for 2-year-old Janiya Norra, authorities say the toddler was brought to a San Leandro, Calif. police station on April 29, 2008. Weeks prior, police say that Jeanette Birdsey received the child and was told that the baby was her son's daughter. Jeanette didn't ask any questions and cops say she assumed responsibility.

Jeanette came across a flyer for Janiya and authorities say she realized that she had been caring for a missing juvenile. Jeanette and her family brought Janiya to the San Leandro police station and explained what happened.

Janiya's mother arrived at the station and explained to police that she had left the child with a friend for a few days while she took care of some business. Janiya was returned to her mother at 1 a.m. that night.
