Police say text messages and witness statements show that 14-year-old Elvia Flores, who was the subject of a statewide AMBER Alert after authorities received word that she and a friend had been allegedly kidnapped April 12, 2010, was not abducted and was instead a willing participant. Police in Sutter County say Elvia's boyfriend picked her up, but she is now safe and sound.
Earlier in the day, police ascertained that Elvia was not at the center of a kidnapping plot -- as had been feared for the past two days -- but rather a willing participant.
Investigators say that text messages and witnesses verified that Elvia had taken off with her boyfriend. Police in Sutter County are now questioning Elvia about her disappearance and say her boyfriend may face charges.
