Police recover body of missing actor
The New York theater world has lost one of its greatest innovators. The body of actor and writer Spalding Gray surfaced in the East River and has been positively identified. Gray's disappearance was featured on Fox Television's "America's Most Wanted: America Fights Back" on January 24, 2004; however the discovery of his body is not a direct result of the broadcast.
Spalding Gray, a writer and actor who first became famous in 1987, is feared dead after disappearing from his apartment in the Tribeca area of New York City on Saturday January 10, 2004.
Gray, who has attempted suicide twice in the past, was spotted the day before on the Staten Island ferry. Just last September, he was stopped from jumping off of another ferry.
The last known communication with Gray was Saturday evening around 9pm. Gray called his five-year-old son to say "I love you." Spalding Gray was set to take off ona trip to Aspen the following day but left his bags, wallet, credit cards and medication behind.
