Maryland State Police and Montgomery County, Md. cops say the search is over for two Germantown, Md. children, Anis and Juliett Eghterafi, and their father, Navid Eghterafi. Cops say the siblings were taken by their father on Saturday, June 16, 2007. According to police, he threatened to kill the children -- and himself -- but hard-working cops were able to catch up with the family before anyone was hurt.
According to police, Eghterafi is divorced, and has joint custody of his children. Cops say Eghterafi took his children, saying he was going to Ocean City, Md. -- but he later threatened to relatives he was going to kill himself and the children.
Police began investigating and searching for the family members, fearful they were all in danger.
Cops say as part of their investigation, detectives had been trying to reach out to Eghterafi to negotiate with him. Police say they were able to establish contact with him on his phone as he drove on Route 66 in Va.
Police coordinated a traffic stop, and the children were recovered from the Honda CRV-EX that Eghterafi was driving. Cops say Eghterafi was taken to an area hospital for evaluation. No charges have been filed against him.
