Identification of human bones found in a Dinwiddie, Va., canal have brought the case of a missing 25-year-old man to a tragic close. Cops say the bones are those of Gerald "Randy" Marion, who went missing while driving an all-terrain vehicle in February 2008.
According to police, the bones were found in the same canal where Randy's ATV had been discovered the day he went missing. Investigators in Virginia had previously searched the canal, but quick rapids and high waters had thwarted multiple dive and search teams' efforts.
In July 2010, a drought in the area caused investigators to launch a new search of the now dried-up canal. Cadaver dogs picked up a scent, and cops uncovered human bones from beneath debris in the bed of the canal. The bones were positively identified as Randy's.
Cops believe Randy's death was a tragic accident. Now his family, friends, and community are trying to find comfort in the closure provided by the sad recovery.
