Sheriff's deputies in Riverside County, California are trying to locate Steve Cooper, who disappeared sometime on Thursday, September 22, 2005. Cops say that Cooper spoke with family on the phone, likely had a business-related meeting in San Bernadino County in the afternoon and hasn't been seen since. Family and friends are worried sick.
That morning was just like any other for Steve. He phoned his father, Ken Cooper, at around 10:30 a.m. to coordinate getting together that evening. He promised to call later that night.
Ken was anxious to hear from his son later in the day, because they were scheduled to go together to the airport to pick up Ken's wife and daughter (Steve's mother and sister,) Kathie and Cindy, returning from an international vacation.
The Coopers say their son Steve very uncharacteristically did not show up for the airport rendezvous and missed a scheduled late family dinner that night. Frantic, they called Steve's children and friends, but no one had heard from him.
Panicked, the Coopers called police the next morning and filed a missing persons report on Friday. Riverside County California Sheriff's deputies are investigating and have classified the case as a missing adult with unknown circumstances. The last known contact with Steve Cooper was that September 22, 2005 morning phone call.
After a search police soon found the remains of Stephen Cooper in a rock quarry close to the western edge of the Morongo Indian reservation. Police say that clothing, a wallet, and a drivers license were found at the scene.
While the discovery brought long awaited relief to the Cooper family, the mystery now turned into a homicide investigation. Cops say that the condition in which the body was found warrants such an inquiry, however, there have been no recent developments.
Police are hoping for the public's help in figuring out the events surrounding Stephen Cooper's death.
