Clint Reck
Police Officer
Muscle Shoals Police Department
Muscle Shoals, AL
Two officers are still alive and almost 800 more are safer in the U.S. and around the world because of Muscle Shoals Police Lieutenant Clint Reckand that's just in the past 10 months. What began as his simple idea to protect fellow officers is now the Armor of God Project which donates bullet-proof vests to police officers who can't afford them. Lieutenant Reck formed the program in April 2009, inspired by a trip with his church to the Philippines in 2008 where a vest he donated to the Philippine National Police saved an officer's life when he was shot point-blank in the chest a day after receiving his vest. Lieutenant Reck soon realized that even in the U.S., a majority of police officers do not have this basic life-saver. He has shipped out vests all over the U.S. and to three other countries. For him, one officer without a vest is too many.
Lieutenant Reck began his career 22 years ago and has been with the Muscle Shoals Police Department for 15 years. He is a patrol supervisor, a SWAT team leader and a certified firearms instructor. He was also officer of the year in 1999 and is only the third officer from Muscle Shoals to graduate from the FBI National Academy. Lieutenant Reck is married with two children, is very active in his church, and coaches Little League basketball. He is an example of how one person's vision can make a world-wide impact.
