Cathy Snow has been a bus driver for the Elk Grove School District in Sacramento, Calif. for eight years. September 14, 2007 marked the end of a long work week. At 3 pm, she dropped off her last student on her bus route and was looking forward to a weekend getaway with her husband. Nothing could have prepared Cathy for the harrowing events that were about to occur.
Out of the corner of her eye, Cathy spotted a man running out of a cul-de-sac. He was holding a bundle tightly in his arms but flagged Cathy down. Cops say Cathy stopped her bus and the man handed her a 7-month-old boy, drenched in blood. The man ran off and while Cathy was shocked, she did her best to care for the child -- calling dispatch for an ambulance and attempting to stop the bleeding head wound.
Police say that when paramedics arrived at the scene, they told Cathy it looked as though the child's head trauma had been caused by a single bullet. Authorities tell AMW that just as they were transporting the child to the hospital, they received a call about another tragedy unfolding only a few blocks away.
Cops say that hours before Cathy Snow's tragic encounter, Sean Aquitania brought his 7-month-old son, Sean Jr, to the home of his friend, Dallas Gil. Dallas was the boy's godfather and hadn't seen the boy in weeks. However, when Sean parked his car at Dallas' house, there were two men waiting to rob it.
The two men held Sean at gunpoint and led him into his friend's home, leaving Sean Jr. behind in his car seat. Once inside the house, police believe the gunmen tied up Dallas, Sean, and another friend, Cosmo, present at the home. However, Sean wasn't about to let himself be restrained with his infant son sitting defenseless in the car. A struggle ensued and Sean, only 21-years-old, took two bullets in the chest. He died instantly. The assailants fled the house and stopped at Sean's car just long enough to fire a single shot into his 7-month-old son's forehead.
Police say that Dallas and Cosmo ran out of the house with their hands still tied together. Dallas ran to a neighbor's house where he was untied. He headed back to check on his godson, Sean Jr., only to find the baby bleeding profusely. Cops say Dallas picked up the wounded boy and ran off down the cul-de-sac. Scared that the gunmen may come back to finish the job, Dallas spotted the school bus Cathy Snow was driving and flagged her down.
While Cathy did what she could, Sean Aquitania Jr. would not survive the gunshot wound. By the time he reached a local hospital, he was dead on arrival. A few days after the fatal shooting, father and son were laid to rest in a single casket.
