On Aug. 23, 2008, police say eight men escaped from a jail in Southern New Mexico. Over the following weeks with the help of hard work and vigilance cops put all but one of the escapees back behind bars.
Edward Salas, 21, who was convicted of murdering a 10-year-old boy, is still on the run. Before escaping he was supposed to do life plus 56-years behind bars.
Curry County District Attorney Matthew Chandler says that the men collaborated over a period of three days to escape from the cell where they were staying. Chandler said the men wriggled through a small door, then shimmied into a small storage closet where they then used homemade tools to break through the building's insulation, then its roof.
