This suspected murderer-in-hiding is probably over 50 by now, but cops don't consider it beyond her to be falsely presenting herself as a young, well-to-do member of Ethiopian royalty.
»The Full Story
When Sophie David arrived in Los Angeles in the early 1980s, she expected to live a life of luxury. As the daughter of a wealthy Ethiopian army officer, she was used to getting what she wanted.
Cops say David was an extremely jealous and manipulative lover. One of her methods of control was accusing the men in her life of physical abuse.
In March 1989, David called police, telling them her husband had been beating her continuously over the four years of their marriage. Charges were later dropped, but their marriage was over.
That actually didn’t seem to bother David, because during most of her marriage, she had actually been seeing another man all along -- a man named Fekade Ashine. But that relationship wasn't working out too well, either.
David showed signs that she suspected Fekade was cheating on her. She and Fekade would even fight over relationships with his own female family members.
On one occasion, David called cops on Fekade, saying that he had battered her. Police say those charges were also later dropped.
According to Ethiopian custom, David and Fekade then consulted a friend for advice and it was determined that their relationship was to end.
That should have indeed been the end of it but cops say David was furious and would not let Fekade leave her.
Police say on July 10, 1991, David confronted Fekade outside of his workplace. She allegedly got out of her car, walked up to him and from a couple of inches away, shot him multiple times in the head. Then, according to officials, she walked back to her car and calmly drove away.
David then appeared to drop off the map.
Cops say Sophie David lies about her age and is fond of changing her look. She likes to dress fashionably and prefers to blend in to Ethiopian communities.
