In July of 2003, the nude, headless, handless body of a young woman was found in Manorville, New York. Since then, the case has gone cold, but now cold case cops are turning up the heat and turning to you for answers to catch a killer. »The Full Story
July 26, 2003 - A woman walking her dog near Halsey Manor Road and the Long Island Expressway happened upon a gruesome crime scene and called police. When cops arrived at the deserted access road, they found the nude, dismembered remains of a 20-30 year old woman. The white or Hispanic woman was no taller than 5-foot-5 and under 125 pounds. She was decapitated and had her hands severed. In an effort to conceal the woman's identity, the killer had eliminated the most notable means of indentification - her fingerprints and dental records. However, one crucial clue was overlooked. Police hoped a partially mutilated tattoo found just above the woman's right hip would lead to her identity and to the killer.
For months, Suffolk County, NY detectives chased down lead after lead, hoping for one more piece of evidence to help their case. Finally, in February of 2004, after releasing a photo of the tattoo, police received a call from detectives in Washington, DC. DC detectives told Suffolk County cops about a missing woman with a tattoo on her lower right hip. With DNA testing, NY police soon had a name for their Jane Doe -- Jessica Taylor.
Cops soon learned that Jessica was a prostitute working up and down the coast from DC to New York. She was last seen working in Manhattan in mid-July of 2003. Now, with a name, Suffolk County police are turning to you for help.
Six years before Jessica Taylor's dismembered body was found, Nassau County police were called to Lake Hempstead State Park. When they arrived on scene, they found the torso of an African American woman wrapped in black plastic garbage bags and stuffed into a green Rubbermaid container. Inside the container, police found a reddish colored towel and flowered pillowcase. For 10 years, police have been hoping one major clue would help them identify the woman - a peach tattoo located above the woman's left breast. Police were able to locate the tattoo artist, but that's when the trail went cold.
On March 3, 2007, a female torso stuffed inside a suitcase washed ashore in Mamaroneck, NY. The legs of the victim were recovered in Long Island weeks later. Inside the suitcase, police found purple color Champion sweatpants, a reddish colored camisole, an off-white longsleeved t-shirt made by Voice and scraps of what looks like a calendar. The torso also had a tattoo of two cherries above the right breast.
Although police don't believe the three women were killed by the same person, they are looking into the possibility. For now, police need your help to find justice.
