Officials say the license plate of the Ford Ranger confirms that Corona did pass through a checkpoint just north of Laredo, Texas.
The vehicle has yet to be located and it is believed that Corona may have walked across the border.
Police say Jose and Maria Corona had been having marital issues before Jose snapped and allegedly decapitated and dismembered his wife's body. Maria was the mother of six children ranging from the ages of 7 to 20.
Cops say Corona test drove a 1991 gold two-door Ford Ranger with Texas license plate AA24004 similar to the one seen here. They say he never returned it to the Dallas used car dealership.
